Dallas Cowboys Domain Name Failure
Several weeks ago, Beth Caldwell from Pittsburgh Professional Women sent me this link, which tells the sad story of how the Dallas Cowboys lost their domain name, and consequently their website, just before a very big game.
This is a perfect example of a common, but easy to avoid problem. Basically, they signed up for their domain name for years in advance. During that time, the email addresses and credit card on the domain registrar account expired, and nobody noticed. So when the domain name pending expiration notices were sent to the Administrative Contact, nobody got the notices. And the Cowboys lost their website. Of course it was only temporary, but it still took several days to get it all straightened out.

PTC Breakfast Briefing: Gregory S. Babe, President and CEO, Bayer Corporation and Bayer MaterialScience LLC
This was the second presentation I've seen by the CEO of a major U.S. corporation in the past couple of months; the last one was by Carlos Cardoso, Chairman and CEO of Kennametal, on 8/4/2010. Both men described realistic plans for breathing life back into U.S. manufacturing. There's no doubt about it: making things is essential for our economic survival. It's not going to be easy, but it's not impossible. (Continue reading...)

This was a very nice reception hosted by the Pittsburgh Technology Council in their newly renovated reception room. The guests of honor included Wilfred Muskens, Deputy Secretary for International Business Development for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The purpose was to introduce members to Pennsylvania's innovative grant program that provides cash assistance to small businesses seeking to expand their international business portfolio. 23 trade representatives came from all over the world to this event to discuss potential business opportunities.
A Funny Story
I also had a very funny conversation you might enjoy also. (Continue reading...)
