Project Portfolio
Circuit Riders is a full-service website design and development company located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We have been providing business website development and consulting services since 2003. We specialize in top position ranking for small- to mid-sized businesses, and in website business analysis.
This page contains descriptions of some of our more recent projects.
Ace-Tech Auto Sales and Restoration
Website Development
We had a lot of fun designing and developing this website for Ace-Tech Auto Sales and Restoration, located in Greensburg PA, south of Pittsburgh. They used to buy and sell cars but have shifted out of the retail sales market and focusing exclusively on buying used cars and other vehicles (including trucks, vans, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, dirt bikes, boats, and more). We set up their website and its SEO to support the business requirements for this challenging and highly competitive industry.
NIR-Now, Pittsburgh PA
Website Development
We designed and developed this website and its SEO for NIR Now, which provides help, support, and education for troubled homeowners nationwide. They help people going through a real estate crisis, including homeowners whose mortgages are underwater, and those consididering strategic default.
Single Shingle Shop, St. Louis, MO
Website Development
We designed and developed this website and its SEO for Single Shingle Shop, which provides small business start-up training and consulting to people who want to learn how to start and grow a single-owner small business in the St. Louis Missouri area.
Stunt Company, New York, NY
Website Development
Stunt Company, a New York music publicity firm, contacted us in January for help updating their website. The company's 10th anniversary was coming up on February 10, 2011, and the mechanism they normally used for updating their website was no longer working; they uploaded new contents but the live website still displayed the old writing.
We researched the problem, which turned out to be an issue with the Flash application pulling content from an obsolete redirect alias set up on Google's Blogger hosting. It was a complicated hosting problem. We had to make changes so that the website pulled content from the right Blogger server. We also provided Stunt Company with an easy-to-use internal web page interface for uploading changes to the live website Added 2/12/2011.c
William Penn Jewelers & Watchmakers
Website Development
We just completed a Phase I website development project for a local Pittsburgh jeweler and watchmaker with two retail locations. We've known Tina and Michael Shimenko for years; they sold us our wedding bands in 1997. When they expanded their business into a second location, they asked us to create their website. The site is helping their business grow by helping their customers find them, and by generating valuable marketing data. Added 11/23/2010.

SpeakIraqi
SpeakFarsi, SpeakRussian, and SpeakIraqi are language acquisition applications developed by Carnegie Speech, a Pittsburgh software company affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University. Carnegie Speech developed these applications in a strategic partnership and technology agreement with In-Q-Tel to support the mission of the CIA and the broader U.S. Intelligence Community.
These are web-based software applications that use the open source course management system, Moodle. Courses are provided for both beginner and advanced students. The goal is to teach students the essential vocabulary they need in order to perform their work, plus grammar, and most important of all – correct pronunciation in these challenging languages.
Circuit Riders wrote and developed the context-sensitive online help systems for all three applications, working directly within the software HTML and PHP Moodle file framework. We worked closely with the product development team and the project manager throughout all three languages. We employed single-source techniques and other best practices throughout the first project, SpeakIraqi. The first project took the longest, but each subsequent application reused the same materials, and our client's documentation expenses dropped significantly with each new application.
During the first project, SpeakIraqi, we made what we felt was a small but critical contribution: we recommended that the vocabulary include the "magic words": Please, Thank You, and I'm Sorry...

Tillywig Toy Awards – Chicago, IL
Website Development
Tillywig is the latest project to come from Dan Levy, the creative talent behind Funstreet Games.
We developed this site from PDF mock-ups and layered image files designed by a graphic designer in Chicago. The main requirement for the site was that the client needed something that he could update himself, particularly the lists of award winners.
Because the client provided the toy awards data in a clean, comma-separated-value ("CSV") text file, we were able to easily convert it into a database. Although not included in the original Scope, the time and energy savings were so great that we were able to create a website with dynamic pages. The Award Winners page, the Store Finder page, and the Search feature, which was custom-developed for this website, are all created by the database automatically when the client edits and uploads the CSV data file.
Custom training and documentation were critical requirements of this project, and the client has been updating the site successfully ever since we completed it.
